Photo by @hammond_robin | “I left my village because I hoped to find people like me… After I met other transgender people, I realized that I was not alone, and it made me very happy.” Boby Tamang is a transgender woman from Nepal and a sex worker. Even in Nepal, which has some of the most progressive LGBTQI+
laws in the region, it is difficult to find regular employment as a transgender-identifying person. For the last 10 years, to get by, Boby has been involved in sex work. It’s dangerous work and has left her vulnerable to abuse. “In the early days, people discriminated against us. I used to fight a lot. I told them, ‘We are humans, cut us you will find blood and s--t, the same as yours.’ I have now given up. How many can you fight? Let the one who says it, say it. I have learned to tolerate their words.” The #WhereLoveIsIllegal campaign is a platform for LGBT stories of survival. This is a @witness_change project.
