#SpeakingInDance | “Dancing is the same as when I breathe,” said the #tango master Gabriel Missé. “I put everything in it: My dancing is an homage to my mother, my family and my teachers.” Gabriel is an esteemed interpreter of the form whose appearances in New York have become treasured occasions. (We caught him when he was in the city this fall.) Here, he performs at the @arginusa with his partner, Maru Rifourcat, a contemporary and ballet dancer who switched to tango 3 years ago. They met in a class that Gabriel was teaching. “He pointed at me,” Maru said. “It’s my life now.” They’ve danced together for a year and a half — and now they’re an actual couple. “Others dance really well,” Gabriel told the #nytimes writer @giadk, “but if it’s not good here” — he pressed a hand to his heart — “it doesn’t work.” Clearly, this does. What better way to ring in the New Year? @sbrackbill made this silent video for our weekly series exploring the world of #dance.
