BELATED THROWBACK THURSDAY: Did you own the SpeedMaster? This was one of the first true high-speed star drag reels in the market. Introduced around 1987, it came in three sizes: TSMII, III and IV. The TSMII was popular in southern California for its small size, light spool and ability to “fly-line” small anchovies for tuna. The TSMIV was very popular for kingfish anglers. About two years into its life, Fightin’ Star was added to these reels. This new drag system allowed anglers to establish a pre-set drag with a star. Before this feature, only lever-drag reels could establish a pre-set position. While the II and III sizes were discontinued long ago, the IV lived on until just recently. #FishShimano #TBT
