It’s a new year & I've decided after 15 seasons sharing amazing times with incredible people racing slalom on the international circuit, that it's time to hang up my slalom kit and call time on my Olympic career. A lot of great memories created with friends as we raced around the globe - 11 World Champs, 2 Olympics and so many more races. I'm been so grateful for the opportunities I've been given the last 20 years - This path has been fun as. Canoe Slalom is a beautiful sport and it’s been an incredible journey through the years. I'm stoked to have watched Canoe Slalom grow in New Zealand, help share it and see the sport evolve with structure coaching and depth. Plus I'm psyched to leave with so many talented athletes coming through the ranks. It was humbling to get the honour of competing for New Zealand at the Olympic Games in Rio & London & be part of amazing kiwi teams taking on the world. But the closing of this door is just the beginning. Now I'm free to get after way more kayaking missions and spend more time focusing on exploring the rivers of the world I am beyond grateful for all the amazing support I have had from everyone over this 20 year journey. You all know who you are & you're awesome. Thank you so much to everyone, none more so than my parents (Les Dawson / Kay Dawson) and family (Martina, James & Abby) who made this crazy plan a reality & supported me relentlessly. All the sponsors and partners that have been so supportive. High Performance Sport New Zealand for backing us on the world stage and giving us access to amazing resources and expertise. The staff at Canoe Slalom NZ. Every person that spent a minute on the bank teaching me, especially Campbell Walsh & Pierre Labarelle, David Slyfield & David Galbraith who pushed me hard for the last 5 years. And there are so many more. MUCH APPRECIATION TO ALL . . @hpsportnz @nzolympics @msmartinawegman @kaydawson5 @planetcanoe
