Photo by @Tim Laman. When you see penguins like these Gentoo’s in the water, you remember that they are really sea birds, and are totally at home there. They are amazingly swift and agile, totally different from their rather clumsy appearance on land. One cool thing that distinguishes penguins form other seabirds that instead of using their feet for power in the water, they “fly” through the water by pumping their little wings. It was very cool to watch this in the clear water next to Useful Island in the Gerlache Strait area of Antarctica where I made this photo from up on shore. Shot on expedition with @NatGeoExpeditions.
