I spent the summer of 1985 in a small town outside of Stockholm at the Eurocana Summer Camp with Lance Mountain and Rodney Mullen. We were skate camp “instructors” for 5 weeks, with a rotation of European skaters coming in and out. It was a formative time in skating and for me personally, as I was gaining confidence, creating new tricks (like stale fish & 720’s) and absorbing all of the new experiences. My taste in music at the time was mostly New Wave and a few punk bands that I’d heard blasting over the skatepark sound systems, but Lance was an encyclopedia of punk. He spent much of his spare time - of which we had plenty - going to record shops and creating mixtapes and making copies for me. He drew custom tracklist artwork on each one and I cherished them through the years. The music on them was raw and powerful, and I was lucky to learn about deeper punk roots through such a passionate source. These tapes set a foundation for my appreciation of punk music, and for what would eventually become the soundtracks to THPS games.
