NEW VIDEO ALERT - “THE FLOWER": I am thrilled to be releasing the video for "The Flower" featuring @victoriacanal today! We wrote the song with @niko.moon and @bensimonetti to be an anthem for the movement to end gun violence in our nation. For the video, I travelled the country filming families and individuals effected by gun violence and was alarmed by the fact that it touches every corner and every walk of life in our society.
The issue really came home when my wife @saraagahfranti and I discovered a couple years ago that a stray bullet had ripped through the wall of my son’s bedroom, then through a second wall and ended up in our living room. I live in a neighborhood in San Francisco called Hunter’s Point, where we have a lot of gun violence in our community, but as I travelled the country I found that sadly this is not unique.
In 2017, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention counted 39,773 gun violence deaths, up 3,000 from 2016. That’s nearly 108 people a day. That’s way too many. I hope this song helps us to see that all of us, no matter what walk of life, or political perspective, gun owner or not, has a role to play in reducing the number of gun deaths we see in our country each day.
