BlueBird, my dearest horse (whose name is now Full Heart), passed away on January 17th at 31 years old. By human age, Bluebird would have been over 100 years old.
About 20 years ago, BlueBird was my comrade, my buddy and my best friend. Full of confidence and short-tempered, Bluebird was always so quick to act on his mood that I actually felt scared quite a few times. Being the confident and short-tempered horse that he was, BlueBird tripped and fell quite often. Both BlueBird and I were lucky, because we were always able to make it to show jumping without getting ourselves injured and falling ill.
To BlueBird: I am grateful that I was able to see you at the very end.
You seemed to have spent some really wonderful time with the family that you stayed with for the last few years of your life. As soon as I got the phone call in the morning of the 17th, I jumped right into my car and rushed over just to be able to see you. When I arrived at the stall that you were staying in, you, even at the age of 31, tried to get up and eat the apple in my hand. I was absolutely impressed. You then took 3 slow breaths and fell asleep - sleep from which you would never wake up. All the while I was there, with my hands on your waist.
Thank you so much for all that you have done for me.
