We had to say goodbye to one of my best friends today. Every single birthday candle wish growing up, I would close my eyes and wish for a dog. If you’ve never had a dog, it can be hard to relate or understand, but they are family. Bandit has been in my life since I was 14 years old. He was by my side through all of the awkward stages of life, heartbreaks, depression, and every sick day. When I lost one of my friends at 17 I remember soaking his fur in my tears. When I battled the worst of my anxiety and panic attacks, he’d be right by my bed and refused to leave my side. He knew when I was hurt or in pain, and being our family dog, he did this for each and every one of us in our toughest seasons of life. As he went to sleep, I thanked him for being with us through it all and assured him we’ll be good. He served, he gave all of his love and he knew it was time, he had done his work ❤️ I’m so thankful for the time, the comfort he brought, the begging for every piece of food under the table (we spoiled him big time), his wagging tail when we’d come through the door, his howling like a wolf ?, scaring all of my friends by barking at them and pinning them on the door (best guard dog) ? and the joy he brought our family in some of the heaviest and hardest of times.
