As we frantically pack and prep to leave for the infamous “Japow” ??? tomorrow - To hopefully stuff our faces w gas station sushi ? (I’ve heard it’s the best?), soak in the mythical onsens, and spend each day giggling at the euphoric feeling of floating through powder fields deeper than anything we’ve experienced before (again, all speculative) - It is bittersweet as one member of our “ski vacation crew” is no longer with us. @landonbassett loved skiing pow more than just about anyone, but he also never failed to remind himself (and everyone else) how utterly absurd it all was. I found this caption of his, from September 2017, to be perfectly fitting for our journey to come:
”Today marks the beginning of the most shamefully self-centered thought period of the year for some of us (you know who you are). The sheer number of hours spent contemplating the actual vs claimed stiffness of boots, or the emotional battle over adding a 108 vs a 112 is disgusting. Seriously, it’s fucking gross and decadent and existentially depressing. The collection of neurons that run this organ sack sincerely apologize for the hedonistic dreaming and morally questionable spending. But the subconscious collection, well, they are ready to PARTY...who wants to meet up and ski pow??”
Well LB, we are ready to party and ski pow and @lmkennedy is going to get air ? and most of all we will miss and remember you for your shameless fun-having yet brutally honest way of being ❤️. Landon snapped this photo of me in La Grave in 2016, I was skiing as fast and as perfect as I could because of all of my friends, I desperately wanted him to approve of my skiing abilities ?? It was one of the best trips @adrianballinger and I took with LK and LB. Of course we skied pow⛷, ate copious amounts of cheese ?, and drank even more bottles of wine?because why the hell not. ???
