From bugs to bob cuts, 22-year-old Japanese hair stylist Ohta Seiya’s (@ohta_seiya) creative concepts can come from practically anywhere. His current look, he says, “is based on the green June beetle.”

“My last look was an orange color inspired by a model I saw on the runway for a Junya Watanabe collection. Next I want to do a 1960s women’s hairstyle, with black fringe, my hair length up to my chin, accessorized with massive sunglasses.”

A style normally begins with a drawing. “I come up with concepts at home and really take my time to draw them,” says Seiya, who lives in Tokyo. “I want to create a new look for each client. I imagine hair as a hat, the ultimate accessory.”
