@Valentino was sublime (I’m saying that word in Raf Simon’s Flemish-flecked accent - incidentally he also attended the show) in EVERY sense not just because the clothes were extraordinarily good and rich, mining all the “vocabulary” of haute couture and taking the kween of couture motifs, the fleur - and literally running away with it

But what will rightly be the overall takeaway is the immense casting, dominated by models of colour, mainly black (39 at my count), with @ナオミ・キャンベル closing the show (slide to last vid to see her weeping whilst applauding @pppiccioli ). Not tokenistic. Not a sweeping all-black gesture. This was a subversion of the norm, so that perhaps we can ALL see it as the new normal. It was a casting triumph of the highest order, paired with @pppiccioli ‘s deft and nuanced hand in the brilliant clothes, and when soundtracked to Roberta Flack’s “The First Time” you couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed and overjoyed. It’s not quite the end of Paris Haute Couture just yet but it would have been a flourish of a finish...
