This one time I got on Country Club Crack in Boulder Canyon, CO. It was June and upon arrival the route was in the sun. ??‍♀️ “ah well” I thought to myself. Country club can, and often is, split between two pitches but myself, my partner and mentor all thought doing it in one push would be fun since we had a long enough rope. So I took off on my adventure after getting the beta on the gear. Keep in my I was (still am) still new to trad climbing. As I’m plugging away I’m shooing all my fears away...at least until I reach the roof. All of a sudden I had blinders on, I couldn’t remember the right gear, I was sweating profusely, and my arms started to get pumped. “Ahhh, I’ll just stick this piece of gear in for a ‘head piece’ ... it’ll probably pop if I fall, but ah well I gotta move,” is what I thought to myself. So I pull the roof, the blinders on my eyes close more and more, the feet were slopey, and so were my hands. All of a sudden I had no chalk, and no calmness about me. I threw for a sloper, feet cutting, allowing gravity to win. I stop for a brief second, but my gear rips from the wall. A screech comes out of me in shear terror. I slam against the wall with my knee cap, and suddenly I’m caught. I look up, grab my knee, and I’m not sure if I should laugh or cry because my adrenaline is pumping so much. I had fallen 50 feet - my biggest fall to date. Here I am reliving that moment from the ground, ready to go bouldering. It was the first time i had seen country club since this day. Needless to say, I think I’m ready to get back on this route some time this year. For now, I’m happy with my crash pad. @krisugarriza
