“We started our climb up Pico De Orizaba, the 18,491-foot peak in Mexico, around 2 a.m. in a storm of sideways freezing rain. Within minutes, anything that was exposed was covered in a layer of ice, and I thought for sure I'd be miserably wet and uncomfortable in a matter of minutes. When we reached the ridgeline a few hours later, I couldn't believe I was still dry and warm.
