#BehindTheShot with #CanonExplorerOfLight @georgelepp: "Is it winter yet? I caught this wild snowflake on a black wool mitten in my front yard, then quickly moved it to a macro setup I had positioned on the porch, where I photographed it using a Canon 5D MK IV camera with an MP-E65mm macro lens at 5X, and a Canon MR-14EX Mark II flash. Snowflakes are extremely complex, multi-dimensional subjects. To capture every nuance, I focus-stacked the capture; with the snowflake illuminated by an LED light for focusing, I braced my elbows on the table and, while maintaining a constant frame and orientation, moved toward and away from the crystal, capturing 42 images at different focus points. The exposure was set at 1/180 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 200.

Post-processing was accomplished in Photoshop CC, where the 42 images were combined to form one completely in-focus stacked image. Auto-Align and Auto-Blend modes were employed to combine the images, followed by background cleaning (to remove remnants of the mitten) and optimization to perfect the final rendition.
