Today is #bellletstalk day. A day about honoring mental illness and the people and families around the world affected by it. To end the stigma around it, and to continue a conversation about it in our communities. Mental Illness has always been a big part of my family, on both sides. In my life I have experienced bouts of depression and continue to struggle to this day with anxiety in certain parts of my life. These are daily battles and they are never won, but at times, more deeply understood. I want to stand up and say to all my brothers, my sisters, and everyone in between, all over the world that I stand with you. If you suffer from a mental illness, if someone in your family is suffering. I know it can be impossibly difficult. But a part of why #bellletstalk day is so special. Is because we are able to see how we are not alone in this suffering. We are in the millions. There is a community, that is dealing with what you are dealing with as well. Your hero... your doctor, your favorite athlete, your butcher... your friend. You...Are...Not... Alone. There are people who you can talk to who are dying to listen. And more importantly, how can you let your community know that YOU can be that person for someone else. The conversation so many times shifts to telling people to reach out and talk, but not enough about advocating to your community that YOU can be that person TO TALK TO, for someone else. Mental Illness has existed since the begging of time. And we are way too late to the party. So lets end the stigma. Open our ears to listen, and lets not wait for someone to speak to us, but rather try to have more purposeful conversations with people in our day to day where when we ask them: “How are you doing today?”, we make eye contact, hold their gaze and mean it. Spread kindness, love and light wherever you go, always take the highroad and be kind. You never know what someone is going through and how close they are to the edge of that cliff, don’t be the one that pushes them over the edge, be the one that calls them back, turns them around and gets them walking back to the life they want to lead. Thank you. ?? #bellletstalk #mentalhealthawareness #endthestigma
