?#Repost @mcdojolife ・・・ I have never posted anything like this on this page before but I feel its important to do so. So here it goes. I was born with a cleft lip/palate which meant I had to undergo ALOT of surgeries that left me with scars on my face. As a kid I was constantly picked on, beaten and teased because of the way I look. Terrified everyday to go to school because I would be called a “hair lip”, “Flat nose” or “freak”. One day in middle school I was jumped by a group of boys because I attempted to stand up for myself. They knocked me down and began to stomp on my head and stab me with pencils. Two teachers stood and watched the event. They did nothing because of some stupid school policy that wouldn’t “allow” them to intervene. So I was beaten for 5 minutes. I know it was 5 because I was beaten from the time the bell rang for the class to end and the next bell meaning that next class had begun. A friend of mine was running late for the class and helped me out then picked me up. Then he did something that changed my life. He handed me a card for a karate class and said “You need this.” My birthday was right around the corner so my mom signed me up as a birthday present. From that day on i have been training. It’s cliche to say but martial arts truly changed my life for the better. I wasn’t scared anymore. Scars became something to be proud of. I had friends and was treated as a equal in the dojo. Since then I have earned: a 3rd degree blackbelt in karate | 3rd degree blackbelt in Lissajous-do (A weapon system not many have heard of) | Purple belt in BJJ | 6-0 amateur boxer | 4-2 amateur kickboxer | Was apart of a national sport martial arts team called Full Circle The reason I tell you my story is because martial arts has helped me so very much. So when I see these frauds bastardizing something that has done so much for me I refuse to hold my tongue. If I can help Atleast one person from getting taken advantage of then maybe they could get a good education in the arts. This video is dedicated to Master Lee Barden my first instructor. You are missed and I will try my best to continue to teach the things you taught me. Made in collaboration with @
