I am so excited to be partnering with @HosannaRevival to be giving away one of their beautiful Bibles! They asked me to share a few thoughts about how my time reading my Bible over the years has shaped my views of God, and I’d love for you to read below. I’m so hoping you might be able to relate? “Saying I am a perfectionist is an understatement. Whether it was swimming, grades, friendships, or attitude, I want to personify happiness, joy, and exuberance at all times. While this seemed to come naturally, I began to feel heavy pressure to be, look, and act “perfect” all the time. Most unfortunately, this pressure came into my practice of faith as well. I felt like I needed to dedicate significant amount of time every day to read Scripture, do a devotional, or do a Bible Study exactly on the timeline. Eventually, I couldn’t keep up with this rigorous schedule I had put myself under, and I began to skip doing these things because if I couldn’t do them “perfectly” I felt like I shouldn’t be doing them at all. I got to a place where I felt so distant from God. Beautifully, one night in prayer, I felt God speaking into my heart that being perfect was the last thing He wanted me to be. He wanted my heart, exactly where it was. He didn’t want me pretending to anyone, let alone to Him. What He sees when He looks at me is a perfectly imperfect Missy. He sees someone who has so much room to grow, who will continue to make mistakes, who will learn from every experience she is given, but most importantly, someone who will never stop calling out to Him. I realized that I will miss my devotionals some days, I will fall behind in Bible studies, I might miss a church service on Sunday, and that is okay. God cares about our heart’s intention to grow in relationship with Him.” What I love most about Hosanna Revival’s mission is that they create Bibles that are as unique as the person studying them! We’d love to equip two of you with a Beautiful Bible of your choice, and a few other Hosanna Revival goodies!
