Boom Boom Huckjam was a concept that stemmed from seeing the rapid growth of action sports (in this case skateboarding, bmx and fmx) but always being the “sideshow” to bigger events for our exhibitions. We were being used as entertainment in parking lots of concerts, a draw at state fairs, or to bring in younger audiences to football games by having us perform during halftime. I thought the time had come for us to be the headliners of a bigger (arena) tour, bringing our action as entertainment - not competition - to larger audiences. I designed a ramp setup that covered an arena floor, we put together a dream team of talent and we spent two weeks rehearsing complicated routines in an airplane hangar before hitting the road. Each year we added new elements, and pictured here was the pinnacle of those efforts in 2005; including a 14’ halfpipe, two moto jumps, a 40’ “big air” gap leading to a 20’ quarterpipe... and a 14’ loop. We did 30+ shows over the course of 5 weeks with plenty of highs and lows along the way. We appreciated all of the support from spectators and sponsors; it was all truly a dream come true.
