This President’s Day, we’re listening to the “First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald. ?
Fitzgerald performed at the Apollo throughout her career. The Schiffman family ran the Apollo from 1934 to 1976, and in 1946,Frank Schiffman began keeping a 5”x8” card on each and every act he hired. On one such index card, he described Fitzgerald as “the best in the business.” There are over twelve hundred such cards.
