Time is money, and a new report shows just how much time and money Americans are wasting sitting in traffic.

The three worst U.S. cities for congestion in terms of hours lost by drivers are Boston, Washington D.C., and Chicago; with Boston taking the cake for the most time sitting in traffic. Bostonians lose 164 hours, just under one week, dealing with slow-moving congestion. And in terms of Benjamins lost, Boston’s traffic costs the local economy $4.1 billion, or $2,291 per driver.

While long, slow commutes are not going away, cities are working to ease congestion with improvement of bike lanes and designated routes. Still, traffic will continue to be an issue in cities that are older and did not develop around cars and driving.
