With its firework #palette and exuberant execution, Mädchen auf dem Diwan (Girl on a Divan) stands as one of the Ernst Ludwig #Kirchner’s most sophisticated early works, and a landmark in the evolution of German #Expressionist #painting. It shows a powerful combination of the influence of Vincent van Gogh, whose first exhibition in Germany had taken place the previous year, and the #Fauves, alongside the artist’s fiercely independent nature and the #Brcke movement. The #expressive work from 1906 will be offered at #auction for the first time, as part of our #Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale in London on 26 February.
