The shadow creates the freeze. The temperature is cold but it’s the dark that takes it over the edge. People do things. Sometimes so far from good, we all cringe wildly; we all react by looking at ourselves and wonder if we have any of that in ourselves. There was a guy I knew a while ago who was trying to get better, trying to put his best foot forward let’s call it. But for some reason every few steps forward was met with a fall backwards, not just a step or a stumble. Then one day he called me on the phone and he told me his father had passed. “Wow. I’m sorry. How are you?”. “I’m okay. We were close, but it’s really hard right now. There are so many things I wish I would’ve said.” A few days later I found out that that guy’s father never passed. He was looking for pity, and the disgrace of putting a family member on the chopping block to garner pity from those around you, that you feel that powerless that you are willing to totally deceive to get the focus on you as victim and to dip in the vat of others compassion is absolutely one of the worst and destructive acts of misbehavior I can imagine. It reminds me of this case in the news I see. This Jussie fella. If he’s guilty, I’m appalled because it’s the greatest insult to the LBGTQ communities and to all of us to are trying to find some communal and trusting throughline between us as we navigate through this most bizarre and arrogant time. #thinkbeforeyouact #youtakeoryougive #feignedvictimsforhumanity? (For clarity: the hawk with the random arrow through it, to me, represents the ones who experience real pain and seem to me to be the most stoic, the least willing to victimize themselves. The ones who implement true progressive change. This photo represents senseless violence. Imagine finding out that the hawk did this to itself? It’s unfathomable.)
