Melbourne is set to gain a major new photography biennial. @photofestivalau (which debuts in 2020), will explore the shifting role photography plays in our lives. The first iteration will revolve around the big-picture theme of ‘truth in the post-internet age’, through free exhibitions, artist commissions, as well as talks, film screenings, masterclasses, and awards. Through April and May, the city (and Regional Victoria) is set to become photographically saturated, with activity reaching beyond gallery walls and into Melbourne’s famed lanes, already awash with public art.
