5 years ago today I walked into Changos coffee shop, that’s now counterpart deli, on Echo Park Avenue. I was living opposite the lake and @DWING_ had recommended I walk down to Changos to get coffee. I had met Tom Biller who produced my 3rd record there a few years ago so I knew it well. I was about to start one of the most turbulent years of my life so far, although I had no idea at the time. Admittedly I was already in the beginnings of some depression and the middle of unhealthy patterns, a bad relationship and working with people I would soon regret trusting. I was waiting for a coffee as a man walked into Changos with this wild fox on a dirty rope and said he needed 20 bucks to get off drugs immediately. I didn’t think I could have a dog at the time but I knew I wanted to help her, everyone in the coffee shop had turned away and was ignoring the situation and I felt so bad for this poor dog. I had a car and 20 bucks so I figured I could at the very least drive her to a shelter. Within 5 mins I had named her Stella and was talking to her in a high pitched voice assuring her everything would be ok. I drove to @margritpolak ‘S house and we fed her and Margrit’s Irish neighbour Paul came outside, looked at Stella and looked at me and then said ‘That’s your dog’ in his husky, stoic accent. 5 years later I’m so thankful I decided to spontaneously act in that moment. Thanks for being such a loyal and loving pal Stella. Such a soul mate. You’re definitely the main reason I got out of bed 2014-2015 and tbh the main reason today. If I didn’t have to love and play with you, pick up your poop and feed you I could def be eaten up by my brain most days.
