‘Wet Paint’ by @studio_prokopiou ➡️ Like the buried sculptures, stripped of their original palette by time or sometimes purposeful erasure, #StudioProkopiou draws a parallel with the excavation of LGBTQ identity. In this series the London based photographer #PhilipProkopiou mixes sapiently his Greek cultural legacy with his signature decadent, vibrant aesthetic, drawing a parallel between the true appearance of ancient marbles with the status of LGBTQ identity. As Sontag elucidates in ‘Notes on Camp’, camp is the lie that tells the truth. The power of the camp aesthetic takes itself back to my childhood. Having realised that I was somehow different and seeing the images of Madonna in those spectacular music videos or the work of David Lachapelle made me realise that there was a world beyond the conservative environment I grew up in.
