I’m really bad at dodgeball ?? . Just kidding! I’ve been having some issues with tiiiiight muscles, particularly in my shoulders, so I popped over to @bouldersportsacupuncture and got some work done from Steven. The circles are the result of a traditional Chinese medical treatment called cupping therapy. I generally understand it as old blood being forced out of an inflamed area so that new blood can flow in and encourage healing. . This was my first cupping session and it honestly felt pretty good!! It didn’t hurt at all during the process - just kinda like getting a big hickey ? I’m stoked to try this as a monthly rehab method. Chinese medicine has always interested me and I’ve had good results from acupuncture. . EDIT: I originally cited a source on cupping but decided to remove it. Cupping has not been scientifically proven to work but neither has it been proven to be ineffective. The goal for me was getting work done on my shoulder because it hurt; I came out with less pain and a sense of productivity for taking care of myself in some way. I’ve had great personal experience with acupuncturists and traditional Chinese medicine and that’s what I want to put forth on my platforms. If it works for me then it might work for someone else, placebo effect or not. I’m not claiming that cupping is a cure-all or even scientifically sound. However, I will continue to pursue these kinds of treatment because they feel great and I enjoy them, and the whole point of my social media is to show what I’m excited about. If, for some reason, I have a bad experience with cupping, then I’ll post about that! But in the meantime I’ll keep being psyched on what I’m psyched on. . #cuppingtherapy #chinesemedicine
