Carter - First Black woman ever to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design (“Black Panther”) • Ruth Carter and Hannah Beachler are the first Black women to win non-acting Oscars since 1984 • Peter Ramsey - First Black director to ever have their film win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) • Mahershala Ali - Won his second Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and became the first Black actor to win two Academy Awards in the category (“Green Book”) • Regina King - Won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) • Spike Lee - Won his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay shared with fellow Black filmmaker Kevin Willmott (“BlacKkKlansman”)
