Earlier today, we asked if you could tell us in which gallery you can find a detail of a Roman Fresco from ca. 50–40 B.C. Did you guess the Cubiculum from the Villa of P. Fannius Synistor at Boscoreale in Gallery 165? If so, you are right!⁣

This cubiculum is an accurate reconstruction of a bedroom from a Roman villa at Boscoreale. The walls are decorated with highly ornate and colorful frescoes, comprising urban landscapes with towering architectural vistas on the side walls and rocky outdoor scenes populated by various songbirds on the rear wall. The villa was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on August 24, A.D. 79 and was excavated in 1900. #MetPopQuiz #TheMet⁣
