H guys happy Sunday! Every Sunday I donate my social media to a different student from our @yearsofliving campaign to talk carbon pricing. Legislation to #PutAPriceOnIt has been introduced in several states already, and there is a LOT of support for getting these policies over the finish line so now is a great time to get involved. This week’s post comes from Violette at Boston University. “Imagine fields of wildflowers so vast they could be mistaken for oceans. Imagine trees so tall they seem to brush the sky. Imagine Heaven on Earth. Now, imagine those fields up in flames. Imagine the corpses of trees acting as kindling for hungry wildfires. Imagine Hell on Earth.
My name is Violette Ballecer, and I am a Boston University student from California. Without action, climate change will jeopardize the lives and wellbeing of countless people. I have seen the deadly effects first hand. The forests in which I used to play as a child do not exist anymore, taken away by the California wildfires. The flowers I used to make daisy chains are long gone. I worry that the next time I fly home, I will not have a house to sleep in.
Global warming is not a natural fluctuation of the Earth’s climate, it is a menace, something WE have created. In order to counteract and reverse the consequences of our actions, we must enact equitable environmental policy and set a positive precedent for future legislation. The best thing we can do for our planet at the present is to instate a Carbon Pricing Bill, forcing companies to pay for their pollution.
Many are familiar with the adage, “Leave it better than you found it.” We have a responsibility to our planet to treat it with the love and respect that it deserves. It is long past time we #PutAPriceOnIt.”
