“On an unseasonably warm and sunny day this week, members of the Martha Graham Dance Company were hard at work in a dark, slightly humid studio. They were doing a dress rehearsal for a new piece choreographed by Pam Tanowitz, which will be included in the company’s upcoming series of dances involving only female choreographers, titled “EVE Project.” Tanowitz gave her notes and asked everyone to go through it all one last time. The dancers took their places and began to move. Their torsos twisted and their arms whipped around; their feet stomped and their legs bent and buckled. Some melted onto the floor, while others jumped up and down. It was fluid and beautiful, an anatomical feat made all the more engaging by the pleated black-and-white garments covering their lithe bodies. The clothes were designed by Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of Tome, and this was their second collaboration with Tanowitz.
