“Investing in the people who make up the diplomatic service is vital - and so I am pleased to be here to help mark the next step forward in that investment.” The Duke of Cambridge opened the Mayhew Theatre today – a new learning facility in the Diplomatic Academy building at the @ukforeignoffice in London.
The Mayhew Theatre is named after Lady Cicely Mayhew, one of the first women to be appointed to the British Diplomatic Service. Today The Duke met three of her four children - Judy, Tessa and David (seen above) and her granddaughter Emily, who were attending the opening this afternoon – as well the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, FCO staff and architects who built the new Mayhew Theatre.
The theatre has state-of-the-art technology, which means staff can join sessions virtually from across the world, and will be used to support the delivery of the Diplomatic Academy curriculums.
