What a Super Day celebrating @super8 by @wyndham ‘s #journeysafe campaign, raising awareness for #drowsydriving. I’m sure alot of you are aware of drinking and driving, but drowsy driving ? is much less documented and talked about. Driving during extreme tiredness or sleep deprivation is an impairment just as serious as alcohol ?and causes over 100,000 accidents per year in the US alone. Drowsy Driving is 100% preventable and %100 unacceptable. Those at @super8 are launching this campaign right now during “National Sleep Awareness Month”, where this sunday we will lose an hour sleep due to daylight savings time. Therefore disrupting people’s already low sleep cycles, and putting them at an even higher risk to be driving drowsy. I always attach myself to causes and people that I care deeply and feel passionate about. And this is no different. About 10 years ago I was bartending in Rome and after a double shift and little to no rest, I drove home, exhausted. I fell asleep and woke up to sparks hitting me in the face as my Green 95’ Renault Twingo grinded to a hault against a guardrail at 70 miles an hour. It was 4:30 am and there wasnt a soul on the road and I was lucky to escape with my life and not harm anyone else in the process. The bruises healed but the trauma and fear of what “could” have happened have stayed with me to this day. That is why I take the pledge to #notdrivedrowsy and I encourage you all to do the same. And if you are on a long journey and know you need to stop. Let @super8 be your roadside companion to help you get rested and ready to reach your destination safely. #journeysafe
