In honor of #InternationalWomensDay I wanted to share this video I came across @lifeofthebrokeandshameless. At first I noticed this adorable group of girls in the GRL PWR tees I designed for Express, but then I noticed that their page meant so much more than just fashion. These girls created a group in their local community to welcome, uplift, and inspire other women. Their platform is all about inclusivity and their mission is to raise other women up and also encourage the same type of GRL PWR support groups in their local community like they created. This video shows a little of what GRL PWR means to them and it makes me happy beyond belief to see young women genuinely lifting each other up with the understanding that “a win for one of us is a win for all of us.” As a woman, I don’t think we always understand the importance of having genuine support for one another. One persons success does not take away from your own, and that is a philosophy that I see a lot of women struggle with. I’m dedicating my International Women’s Day to @lifeofthebrokeandshamless because I am so proud of what you are doing and I hope we can see more of this kind of support among women. I can only speak for myself, but I know from the bottom of my heart I would not be where I am without the support of so many women in my life. I also wouldn’t be where I am without the inspiration and achievements of my peers and other women before me. When I see another woman’s success I don’t think “since she did it, I can’t.” Instead I think “wow that’s incredible, if she did it, so can I!” And that is the truth. There’s always enough to go around! Imagine how much more strength we would have collectively if we decided to RAISE each other up instead of put each other down. Let’s keep lifting each other up and supporting our biggest and wildest dreams together because as this video says “alone we are powerful but together we are unstoppable”.
