It’s launch day (and #PiDay)! Tune in at 3:14pm ET to watch NASA astronauts Nick Hague (@astrohague) and Christina Koch (@astro_christina) and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin launch from Kazakhstan to the International Space Station. Watch live at www.nasa.gov/live.
This is a reflight for Nick and Alexey, who launched on Oct. 11 but experienced a rocket booster malfunction and had to abort their mission. This is Christina’s first time to launch and first time to space.
The new crew members will dock to the space station at 9:07pm after a six-hour journey.
About two hours later, hatches between the Soyuz and the station will open and the new residents will be greeted by NASA astronaut Anne McClain, station commander Oleg Kononenko of Roscosmos, and David Saint-Jacques of the Canadian Space Agency who are currently onboard.
The crew members of Expeditions 59 and 60 will continue work on hundreds of experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science aboard the humanity’s only permanently occupied microgravity laboratory.
