At least 49 people were killed in shootings during Friday prayers at two mosques in New Zealand on March 15, in what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern labeled a “terrorist attack." At least 20 others were seriously injured. The main shooting happened at the Masjid Al Noor mosque in central Christchurch, the largest city on the country’s southern island, where about 30 people died, according to @apnews. Four people have been taken into custody, including one reportedly charged with murder. Footage from the shooter's point of view, during part of the attack, was apparently streamed on Facebook Live, prompting police to urge people not to watch the “extremely distressing” video being circulated. Social media platforms scrambled to contain its spread.
