Pewdiepie fans spent a month calling me a nigger last month when I called him a Nazi. The NZ murderer said “subscribe to Pewdiepie” before murdering 50 people. He also said he was inspired by Donald Trump and Candace Owens. Candace Owens also trolled me a year ago. Now, in my hometown of Brooklyn, people are carving “subscribe to Pewdiepie” in holocaust memorial monuments. Hate in digital spaces is a precursor for hate in the flesh. Stop telling me to ignore this stuff. It’s getting people killed.

However, while it doesn’t make up for it, he did apologize and he hasn’t ever had another incident from my knowledge that would lead to the idea that he is a racist. He has a wide fan base that likely has plenty of terrible people, many of whom likely see the Christchurch shooting as something funny, so they carve that statement into the Holocaust memorial. However, I do not believe Pewdiepie himself is the problem. Another thing the Christchurch shooter said in his manifesto is that he aimed to divide people, so it makes sense he’d say something like, “subscribe to Pewdiepie” to divide people on the subject and place blame on Pewdiepie instead of actual racists and white supremacists.
