As the truck warms up, the drizzle hits the windshield and I fixate on how each droplet holds a warped and refracted perspective outside. Cool air is blasting through the vents and the skin of my arms prune and I wonder how long it will take for those little explosive pistons to generate enough heat to embrace me this morning. Waylon Jennings sings on the radio. I watched “The Grapes of Wrath” last night and noted while I watched it how long the camera stayed with people as they spoke, how they let them play out their pains and joys to each other, to us the audience, as if it was some pastime, something we used to do but don’t any longer. Some of the shots were so fake with their painted screens and echo-y voices even though they were supposed to be walking a dirt road outside but it didn’t matter because you take that leap of faith with a story, you let yourself be transported because we want to live as many lives as possible, I think. And Henry Fonda listens well. It’s a plus to see people listening well. Starbucks doesn’t have the usual hangers on inside so I order my coffee quick from the woman who never gets the order right even though it’s just a coffee with a splash for me and another coffee with a splash of another kind of milk for my wife. While she pours I look outside and there is a quiet to the clouds now, a slow pause almost, and I take a photo with my phone. It’s of the palm trees in the parking lot, the reflections of the lights in Starbucks and those droplets again, following me around everywhere. I look down at the photo and hear from behind me: “Sir? We have two black coffees and...one large milk.”」3月24日 9時42分 - joshbrolin
