It started with a search on @petfinder, filtered to only show senior dogs and sorted by who had the longest stay in the shelter. It was his pig ears, the gray face and the one line that I will always remember, “he is starting to shut down being at the shelter”. We were told he was not fond of men, loud noises scared him and young kids made him nervous.

One year later: He climbs in bed every morning exactly 10 minutes before the alarm goes off just to cuddle. He continues to think he will successfully catch BOTH the mail truck and every single seagull he sees throughout the day. At any given moment, you can find him on his back with all 4 limbs up in the air or on a opossum hunt with Rufus and Rosie. Most importantly, he can’t get enough greeting every. single. person that comes through our door with 637 kisses: men, woman and even kids of all sizes. He’s simply #bestboybirk

He may have been shutting down at the shelter, but he is proof that second chances for shelter dogs do exist.

So to celebrate his 365 days out of the shelter we are going to raise money for people who devote their entire lives pulling dogs from shelters and finding each and every birk out there their own permanent home.

Tag your photo using the hashtag #bucksforbirk and for every photo, we will make a donation to. @standupforpitsfoundation who spends their days saving the lives of pitbull “type” dogs AND @livelikeroofoundation who helps people and their animals through cancer diagnosis.

funniebunniebun I do not have shelter dogs but I do have three "found in my yard and brought to the vet then moved in the house" cats. One was all about it, one I had to slowly win over inch by inch then finally busted out some turkey which led to petting privileges and now she's a cuddle monster, and the last one was a tiny kitten I had to chase for an hour to catch and had to be quarantined for a good couple of months for the various works. He is absolutely my baby! The other cats love Daddy more but luckily one out of three loves me best!
