How? How has it been 5 years since you took your last breath? How is it fair to not be sharing this world with you? How has the time seemingly flown and stood still? How is my heart still raw like it was yesterday? How come this day rips me open again each year? I dread this day. The reality of what it brings. This day 5 years ago you took your last breath. I celebrate your life and find gratitude for it all every other day. But today I allow myself to grieve again. To cry. To curse. To be angry. I miss you. Each day. Always. Forever. This world isn’t the same without your goofy faces, wise words, long phone calls, holiday dinners, junk shopping trips, silly giggling, and truly unconditional love. You told me you wanted me to rest in faith, hope and love as I moved forward In life. I cling to my faith today as I grieve knowing you’re in a better place. I hang onto hope for finding a cure to lung cancer as I fight to save others lives from the same fate, with your story. I will forever have love in my heart as I carry you and your memories with me. I encourage anyone who reads this to reach out to someone you love today... tell them you love them because one day you wont have that opportunity. Granny I love you. I miss you. #DD #FCancer

chrisfaini @therealshantel after reading your words about this picture, you can perfectly understand how I feel, eventually I am so touched and identified with you about this experience in life, then it's when I realised that we do not overcome someone's lost in life, in my case I just do the best everyday knowing my grandparents, father, sister and brother are with me, in my heart, soul and mind... looking after me from somewhere up there! At the end of the day I feel spiritually rich keeping the best of them in me!

bethsupinski @therealshantel my grandma passed away when I was only 10 years. She was my best friend and an amazing woman and even at 32 years, old that anniversary hurt like hell. It will be 23 years this July and I can’t imagine that day will hurt any less.

kckretzler It’s been just over 3 years since my mom passed unexpectedly. Her birthday, Mother’s Day, Christmas and the anniversary of her death still rip me open. I totally understand. I cry less often but when I do cry about missing her it’s a big cry.

dansmonjukebox It was the 4 th years anniversary for my aunt passing last months. I felt every word you mention. So terrified it will happen the next years. I was not ready for this. Still not. I feel you @therealshantel sending hugs ❤️
