The look on your face when your doctor tells you your BMI is too high. 😐😐😐What’s the most ridiculous thing a doctor has ever said to you? •
I am much excited to announce my partnership with @steadyMD. 🙌🏻 SteadyMD is an online doctor service that pairs you with a doctor that is right for you. My doc is a weightlifter - how cool! So she understands the training, recovery & nutrition needs. This company is changing the way healthcare works in America and was EXACTLY what I've been looking for in a doctor. •
@SteadyMD has a quiz that pairs you with the doctor that is right for your specific medical needs, diet, lifestyle and goals - not just a doctor in your area. Plus it's super convenient - No co-pays. No waiting rooms. Just unlimited access to a doctor “gets” you. •
This is the kind of healthcare I want to support and advocate for—and I think you should hop on the train too! 🚂 Everyone deserves this level of care. Click the link in my bio or visit steadymd.com/kristinpope to get started! 📷: @hookgrip

I went for my yearly OB visit and when they were palpating my stomach she told me I had tight abs and I should stretch more. Not too long after, at the emergency room after a very strange clinic visit where my only symptom was severe heartburn I was diagnosed with a basketball sized ovarian tumor that they estimated had been growing for at least a year. “Tight abs” required major abdominal surgery to remove 4 liters of fluid, a muscinous mass, what was left of my ovary and Fallopian tube and my appendix. Good doctors are hard to come by. This one attributed an abnormal hard/slightly distended lower abdomen to my powerlifting and level of physical activity. She even stated she didn’t work with a lot of athletes so the muscle tone was throwing her off. And honestly it almost cost me my life. My surgeon told me if my tumor had ruptured I would’ve gone septic and died before I could’ve even dialed 911. And that’s the most ridiculous thing a doctor has ever said to me.

My shoulder doctor told me to stop doing crossfit and Oly lifting. I didn’t listen of course. Then I ruptured my Supra playing flag football, not crossfit or lifting. Very serious Injury and one of the worst he had seen in someone under 40. Within 4 months of rotator cuff repair and labrum cleanup I was back doing most things and the doctor was astounded at the strength when he tested it. He asked what i did. I said hey doc, I’ve been doing crossfit since a week out of surgery, maybe give more knowledgeable advice going forward 👌🏻 👍🏻🙏🏻

👊🏻 Exactly. In sports medicine we have always argued against using the BMI chart because muscle is heavy and someone who is maximally fit, lean, and strong (ahem...) would look “heavy” next to someone who is the same height but made up of less dense tissue (fat). The first person is obviously healthier than the second so The doctor just has to pull their head out of their...data and look at the patient in front of them. Apparently too much to ask.
For being doctors, those people are not very bright.

I once had a doctor accuse me of being an alcoholic because my kidneys and liver were under stress but I knew I had acute rhabdo. Another doc told me “it’s just a headache” when I actually had a brain tumor. He at least apologized after. My trust in some doctors is REAL high.

I ruptured my ACL 10 yrs ago. The dr I saw told me he wasn’t going fix it and that he would just fit me with a brace because I “wasn’t a million dollar a year athlete”. Needless to say I found another doctor who repaired my ACL and I have been going strong since then

My wife was required to go to weight counseling in order to get the discount on her health insurance through work because of her BMI. She’s a badass 71kg lifter. Meanwhile, skinny cheetoh’s boy gets the discount no problem @julinoe 🤦🏻♂️
