The moment when Yayoi Kusama became the most valuable female artist to sell at auction in #Asia. Just one of many great moments in the course of the last six days at Sotheby’s in #HongKong, where no fewer than 28 records have been broken, and where collectors from across Asia have demonstrated their continued appetite for great works across the spectrum of artistic production from both the East and the West. Sotheby’s six-day series of exhibitions, sales, conferences and lectures drew art enthusiasts from the across the region. The collectors among them drove auction sales to an outstanding of HK$3.78 billion / US$482 million, the second highest total in the company’s 46 years in Asia, second only to the landmark sales marking its 40th Hong Kong anniversary in 2013. The numbers say it all: 6 works sold for over HK$100m; 90% of all works offered sold; 35,000+ people came to visit. Every corner of Asia was represented and active.
