アレックス・シブタニさんのインスタグラム写真 - (アレックス・シブタニInstagram)「Excited to share some photos from @maiashibutani’s and my amazing shoot in Tokyo with @rumor.me! #Repost @rumor.me ・・・ RUMOR ME編集部がマイア(@maiashibutani )とアレックス(@alexshibutani )に出会ったのは去年の夏。⠀ 丁度アメリカでも映画「クレイジーリッチ！」が公開され、話題になっていた時期だった。⠀ .⠀ アスリートとして競技にストイックに打ち込む姿はもちろんのこと、ラルフローレンのアンバサダーを務めたり、アレックス本人が撮影から編集まで自身で行ったコンテンツをソーシャルメディアで公開したり、スポーツというジャンルにとらわれず挑戦しつづける彼らの姿勢は刺激的で新鮮でもあった。⠀ .⠀ 何より印象深かったのは、人種のるつぼであるアメリカでアジア人として活躍することについて質問した際に、「日系アメリカ人だが、スポーツのフィールドで自分たちがマイノリティであると意識したり、そう扱われたと感じたりしたことはない。アスリート同士として常にフェアに互いを意識している環境だから」と語ってくれたことだ。⠀ 「DIVERSITY(多様性)」をテーマに彼らを撮影・インタビューしようと決意したのは、まさしくこのときだった。⠀ .⠀ It was last summer when RUMOR ME editorial staffs met Maia and Alex for the first time.⠀ As far as we remember, it was when the film “Crazy Rich Asians” was making a big hit globally.⠀ .⠀ As professional athletes, the siblings are, of course, very disciplined and enthusiastic about sports. In addition to that though, what made them even more interesting and appealing were their passion to keep trying and working toward their activities outside sports such as being Ralph Lauren ambassadors and publishing videos on social media that Alex shoots and edits.⠀ .⠀ When we asked them what it was like to be Asian in such a melting pot of ethnicities as the US, they responded that they had never felt like they were treated as minorities.
