April 15, 1914

107 Years ago today, J. Dawson and some 1,500 souls perished in the frigid North Atlantic 300m / 500 km  from Newfoundland, Canada.

Halifax, Nova Scotia was best equipped to aid in the rescue efforts and spent the next three weeks searching the seas for victims. Those gruesome expeditions allowed them to recover a total of 328 bodies.

Some were buried at sea, some were returned to their families and the rest were buried in three different cemeteries in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I spent some time in the Fairview Cemetery where 121 victims were laid to rest to pay my respects.

For some reason, this story, and these peoples' stories fascinate and haunt me. I've been to many Titanic sites over the years, read many books, watched loads of documentaries and yes, cried when I heard Celine Dion sing "My Heart Will Go On" in Halifax. I can't shake it.

krissywildone Went to the museum in southhamptom. They have a titanic exhibition. Saw a watch that was stopped when the owner jumped into the icy waters. Recomended as the also include info on the court trials after the sinking.

lady_longstocking Went to the Fairview cemetery to pay my respects as well. Found the story of the monument interesting, seeing the Titanic’s history itself is also a story of the huge divide between the rich and the poor.

samantha.reads I think the one thing that interests everyone about Titanic is the mystery behind it. I'm hoping to write an historical fiction story about Titanic about all I've researched about her.
