Discussing Notre Dame on the group txt with @hnashette @boomvision @paulatrounce just now and my sister sent me this. As much as I love old architecture and history, and I do, I was sad to see it burn down, it makes me cock my head and screw my face seeing how quickly 800 million can be raised to fix an old cathedral. History is cool af to learn about and be able to see for sure. A sustainable and fair future is surely more important. Tropical rainforests are being destroyed at a rate of at least 8 million hectares a year. The Grenfell bereaved are still waiting on answers. We don’t have safe housing for people to live in 2019. When I drive around downtown in LA and see the numbers of people living on the streets in tents in fucked up conditions 800 million to rebuild the old makes me wanna puke. And I’m the biggest appreciator of old things and history, I mean it’s literally a problem, I have feelings for receipts ffs. But even a mentally ill musician w feelings for receipts can see this is stupid. The system is corrupt and wrong. I think money must make you lose your mind. We are not living sustainably. We need to evolve. Imagine if ppl w money could come together this quickly for something that would bring about actual positive change. “800 million is an impressive number until you consider it’s priority” repost @charlycox1

Part of the problem is that people refuse to learn from the past, whether distant or recent. For example, some people, despite the examples of the Soviet Union, Cuba, Spain, Greece and Venezeula people still think that socialism works. They point to countries like Norway and say that is a success neglecting the fach that system is funded by drilling for oil in the North Sea and the Arctic Circle ( I gueds socialism trumps environmetalism). The Cathedral us a symbol of what the united efforts of man kind can accomplish. Rather than note how magnificent it is you get upset because people want to rebuild something that brings people to Paris every year. I could give plenty if reasons why this happened as well as dozens of reasons why the money should go to things like protecting the rainforest, but you would not listen to the former and you know the later.

@katenash This is exactly why I do not participate in the lottery. It’s so sad that people contribute SO much money towards a lottery pool in hopes of winning it all for themselves!! Its crazy to see that giant number sitting there. When we could be putting these funds collectively towards the worldly issues that truly need it!

800 million to repair a builing thats owned by an organisation that has upto now spent nearly £3billion on child sex abuse scandals and is still the richest on earth. Yet a 10th of that was raised for grenfell, where people died as a result of poor plannjng and neglect, this world does more than irk me too.

In Australia they're currently wanting to tear down 600 year old trees that are important to indigenous culture for a highway, it's amazing how much more people care about white history tbh

It's honestly so sad that 1 BILLION dollars are going towards Notre Dame when that billion could be used in so many more helpful ways to our planet
