First sketched out in 1961 by French architect, Bernard Zehrfuss, the Musée Gallo-Romain is a project of “invisible architecture”. Built into one of Lyon's oldest hills dating back to 43 B.C., the museum's exterior is a combination of landscape and the ancient ruins of a Roman theatre. The space's reinforced concrete frame inside creates a sense of structural utility and restrained minimalist aesthetic. Entirely underground, the structure accompanies the geometry and topography of space and terrain. Photo by Clemente VB.
