I’ve been so lucky to have the fan base I have- the privilege of creating art and having you all take my art and turn it into your own and gift it back is so special to me. Many people ask me where all the gifts from my incredible fans go? I keep the things that have a heartbeat. I keep the personal letters where you tell me your problems and share your pain. I keep the art that took time for you to make. I keep the personalized things, the things you took time to buy because they represent where you’re from. They go in my office and I, just today, packed them all up with care to move them to my new office. I try to be prudent about how much of the candy I eat or how many treats I give to Blanche. Anything I can’t keep I always give to someone- a hotel maid, a theater worker. Nothing ever gets thrown out. I would never. There is no delicate way to say “thanks for the gifts, but can you change what you give me?” So at the risk of ending this tradition in the name of moral high ground... While I love every gift, I hate that most things come wrapped in plastic or is just plastic. And over the last several months my eyes have been opened to how MUCH plastic we use. I love things that share your love- but I have to take a stand and ask that you don’t gift me anymore plastic cups, tumblers, reusable water bottles, make up products, glitter, lotions, plastic bags of candy etc. This gift giving was so organic and so unique to my fan base, it feels wrong to try to manage it. But I can’t, in good conscience, post about our plastic waste and then accept pounds of plastic presents every week because it’s fun. I understand a lot of plastic can be unavoidable at times and I don’t A) Expect a gift B) Expect that gift to be perfect. So, while I love the gifts of your self expression and I still look forward to all of your creative things. I have to put the planet above my personal enjoyment. If you could just think before you buy, not just for a gift, but in general, our planet will be a lot healthier. I’m Very excited to see you all on the road for my never ending tour.
