I've always gone against the recommendations of the elitist art world by trying to make my work more accessible, and to me, that means making everything from a sticker to a screen print or stencil, to beautiful art pieces that require a lot of labor and technique. I love texture and layering both as a viewer and within my technique and I aim to incorporate that feeling in my fine art. Stencils have been at the core of my art practice since 1989, and you'll see different iterations of stencil pieces in the upcoming 30-year survey "Facing the Giant - 3 Decades of Dissent." - Shepard
