Kids learn most of what they know from context, so in the summer of 1980, when little Timmy Nordwind‘s grandfather and mother drove past this assisted living community while discussing the meager living conditions in the Soviet Union, @timothynordwind came to the fairly reasonable conclusion that the Soviet Union was, in fact, this very building. Shortly after his 12th birthday, Tim was disabused if this misconception, and he came to understand that the United States’ rival superpower in the Cold War was in fact an enormous nation many thousands of miles away, and not, in fact, a nursing home in Kalamazoo.

And yet, ironically, the Soviet Union was a giant, run down, nursing home.
