Juan Guaidó (@jguaido), the leader of #Venezuela’s opposition-held parliament, took to the streets of Caracas with a small group of armed soldiers on April 30, calling for a military uprising against authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro and declaring the country had entered “the final phase of Operation Freedom.” In a video live-streamed on Twitter, Guaidó is seen standing at an air base in #Caracas while flanked by a few dozen troops and @leopoldolopezoficial, an opposition politician who has been under house arrest since 2014, when he led a series of antigovernment protests. Lopez said members of the military had freed him on Guaidó’s orders. Maduro’s information minister said the government was putting down a rebellion of “a small group of military traitors.” In this photograph, demonstrators help an injured woman near the air base.
